Blade Runner 2049 Now in Theaters

Every once in a while, a sequel or modern reprisal of an absolute classic film gets our seal of approval, and that time is now. Today marks the cinema release of ‘Blade Runner 2049′. This is the modern follow-up to the cult sci-fi classic Blade Runner with Harrison Ford.

You’ll be happy to know it’s retaining the aesthetic of the original film in a modern way, superseding it’s predecessor with the advancements in special effects and digital technology since 1982, back when Ridley Scott directed the original film. However, instead of Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve (who directed the recent film Arrival) is directing this sequel. Harrison Ford is back as former hitman Rick Deckard, plus Ryan Gosling stars as the new young Blade Runner simply named ‘K’, who in his search for answers to a long-buried secret, tracks down Rick Deckard, after he’s been missing for thirty years.

Now to get you in the mood, we bring you the official trailer, so you can catch a gist of what’s in store, before you even run off to the cinemas. Enjoy!

Here’s the plot, if the trailer wasn’t enough already: ‘Officer K, a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard, a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.’

The original theme song and score of the new picture, retains the core vibe of the original film in style and acoustics but with a modernised twist (deviating slightly from the synth sounds of the 1980s), so that’s been preserved, adding to the sci-fi film noir vibe of the original motion picture, and you’ll also be interested to know that the supporting cast also consists of Jared Leto and Robin Wright, to name a few.

The screenplay is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, with Ridley Scott giving his seal of approval with Denis Villeneuve directing this sure to be a hit movie, even though, it’s a sequel of a cult classic. How often does that happen? Not very often these days, as sequels and cult classic remakes hardly ever live up to expectations.

But, you can tell that Villeneuve and the cast have done the original film justice, judging by these trailers, as why else would it gain Ridley Scott’s seal of approval, eh?

Now for the second trailer, you can catch further glimpses of what’s to come from this film, whose film premiere on Sunday was sadly cut short, due to the horrible massacre in Las Vegas.

Well like us, if you think this film will stand up on its own, as a great homage and sequel to the original classic, then you’ll be pleased to know that Rotten Tomatoes have given ‘Blade Runner 2049′ a 95% rating, after 73 Reviews thus far, which is a sure-fire sign that this film will live up to the hype and perhaps even match or even dare we say it, be even better than Ridley Scott’s cult classic film from 1982.

Go watch it and find out for yourself!

Brainstain, over and out!
