You may remember six years ago when ‘L.A. Noire’ came out on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC by Rockstar Games, where you take on the role of Cole Phelps, a Police Detective of the LAPD in 1947, set in Los Angeles, who’s returned from WWII to solve crimes in Hollywood. Well if you don’t remember, now’s the time for us to refresh your memory, since Rockstar Games have released a fully remastered, 4K version the ‘L.A. Noire’ game today on the PS4, Xbox One and on Nintendo Switch.
This should have you entertained as you pick up clues and interrogate suspects in the dark underbelly of “Hollyweird” in the late forties and early fifties, which no doubt draws inspiration at times from the infamous ‘Black Dahlia‘ murder case, as well as the film L.A. Confidential, but don’t worry, Kevin Spacey is nowhere to be found inside this game.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the immersive trailer for the re-release in 4k, shall we?
Yes, Rockstar Games have seen the need to remaster this once popular game for a new generation of gamers. Perhaps they might have been drawing inspiration of recent scandals in Los Angeles? Well no, perhaps it was just really “good” timing. Either way, the storyline is completely original, and focuses on Cole Phelps’ rise from being a Police Officer working the beat to becoming a Homicide detective that unravels a crime syndicate amidst rampant murders, arsons and corruption in the City of Angels.
The gameplay on Playstation 4 Pro looks very good indeed, so let’s take a look at it, and see if this is the sort of game that will bring you the need to experience a world from the past… full of vintage cars, classic suits and hats, cuban cigars, hints to the Illuminati, and rampant street crime that was rising at the time, not to mention the underlying possibility of secret societies and crime families within the city of entertainment having a hand in bigger crimes. Let’s take a look at the start of the game. and see how things shape up.
The game involves a grand storyline, much like a good Hollywood movie, with a tight script, and epic open world gameplay across a realistic 8 square mile radius of Los Angeles at the time, complete with engaging missions for you to solve with superbly acted cutscenes as well. For more information on the plot, read here, but be warned, you’re heading into spoiler territory.
In no time, you’ll feel like you’ve been taken to another world, which is exactly what you want from a game. That is, if you have the patience to become a top detective by rising through the ranks of the LAPD. The re-release already looks like a big hit, with Gamespot giving the game a 9 out of 10 rating, so this should most definitely entertain you long through the winter months. Plus, with a BAFTA Game Award for the Original Score in 2011, you know that the suspense will be palpable as you play on.
Can you crack the case? Buy it and find out.
Brainstain, over and out!
