Does Watching Porn Damage Your Brain?

Those late nights of watching XXX rated anal penetration videos, lesbians urinating in each other’s faces, or any old Jenna Jameson timeless classic on Pornhub could actually be slowly destroying the very fabric of your mind, or at the very least give you one heck of a reliever/headache, so they say.

According to the savvy science of Taiwanese neurologists, watching adult rated explicit scenes could be putting our brain health at risk, which would give a whole new meaning to the word pornography, or even “brain stain”, if this science is anything to go by. But remember, it bares no resemblance to the very stimulating and thought-provoking literature that we provide you with on a weekly basis.

Taiwanese boffins, research has shown that the brain scans from a 40-year-old supposedly happily married man, who regularly looked at XXX images (how happy is he, really?), showed activity in areas of the brain that are associated with pain, rather than those associated with sexual activity.

Another theory is that in some people, viewing pornography triggers an increase in sudden nerve sensitivity, which in turn increases blood flow to the brain, causing life-altering pain.

Not the 50 Shades of Grey kinky bondage kind of pain, but the kind of internal damage that could lead to a blood clot to the brain, which would naturally kill you, or at the very least turn you into a complete and utter vegetable. And, if you believe in all of that, you probably also believe in the tooth fairy, or in that Hillary Clinton didn’t try to rig the presidential election of 2016.

Either way, the Taiwanese and others seem to think so, however, western psychologists would disagree, as we can reference in another recent analysis here.

This isn’t the first scientific study released that shows that viciously tossing off to graphic material is bad for your health. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute in Berlin found that a part of the brain which activates when people feel motivated or rewarded, shrinks and works less efficiently when regularly viewing sexual images. So whilst it may not cause actual physical pain (up for debate), it may just not be something to engage in or overuse for other reasons.

For the righteous study, the Max Planck Institute recruited 64 healthy men between the ages of 21 and 45 years and asked them questions about their porn-watching habits.

They also took detailed images of the men’s brains to measure volume and to see how their brains reacted to pornographic pictures. They found noticeable differences in the men who abstained from such unholy activities compared with those who regularly masturbated to sexual videos and images until they were blue in the face. That’s called too much exposure, ya’ know?!

As to the exact differences, you’d probably have to ring up the Max Planck Institute for the exact results if you’re that concerned.

Anyway, whilst many people appreciate the carnal integrity of porn from time to time, perhaps it’s best advised to enjoy everything in moderation, and not to pursue any pornography marathons, especially if these recent scientific studies are anything to go by.

Porn, while it might not have been proven to cause actual physical pain, pornography sure can disassociate yourself from enjoying the real thing, not to mention developing distorted views on actual real life sex.

Perhaps some E.U countries should roll out ‘What is Pornography 101’ classes to some of these new unassimilated migrants of Europe, alongside those afternoon classes on how to flirt with Western women (to show them what’s actually acceptable behaviour), so as to finally find a cure and resolution for the escalating rape crisis in countries such as Germany and Sweden.

Now there’s an idea!
